It’s Ducati’s game to be upping its own ante, and it continues to do so on the foundation of its brilliant Panigale superbike. First there was the Panigale R (which we previewed here), and now comes the 1199 Superleggera set to debut at Milan’s EICMA Motorcycle Show this November. Meaning “super light”, the limited edition Superleggera earns its name by utilizing a top tier combination of high-strength, ultra lightweight and very expensive materials to produce the highest power-to-weight ratio of any production motorcycle ever. Titanium, carbon fiber and magnesium — such as in the magnesium alloy monocoque frame and 3-spoke alloy wheels — are generously applied to create a bike that weighs just 342 lbs (155 kg). United with a 200-hp, 99 lb-ft of torque 1,198cc Superquadro engine, the combination creates a Formula One-level of performance not soon to be repeated in a “street” bike. The 1199 Superleggera also features Brembo brakes, Öhlins front and rear suspension, and Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires. Only 500  of the Italian superbikes will be built, first offered to owners of Ducati’s Desmosedici RR or R Superbikes. Since they have first rights of refusal, 75% of the 500 bikes have already been sold. Good luck getting your hands on one.
